Stuart Bathroom Remodel

Mike & Margot’s Bathroom Remodel

Mike and Margot purchased their first home, with two bedrooms and one bathroom, in West Los Angeles, California.  The house was built in 1939 and had original charm, but was in desperate need of a remodel with updates and comforts for a modern family. I had just six weeks to remodel the bathroom before the couple’s target move-in date of Christmas 2013.

By completely reimagining and reconfiguring the layout, my cabinetmaker was able to build a vanity on the wall where the bathtub and toilet once were. It’s large enough for two rectangular under-mount sinks, and vastly increases the amount of available storage space.  A bathtub/shower combination and a new sliding window now take the place of the old vanity and windows, and the new toilet occupies the space that once housed the original tiny shower for an overall more logical, comfortable and space-efficient layout.

The new Carrara marble slab on the vanity dictated the room’s sleek grey and white color scheme. A beautiful grey tile now covers the floor, and clean white paint covers the Victoria-style cabinet doors and walls, creating a chic spa-like atmosphere topped off with polished chrome plumbing fixtures.  A large mirror with a contemporary sconce centered over the vanity visually enlarges the space and brightens this small bathroom.

What had for decades stood as an awkward and dated bathroom is now a stunning, contemporary, and highly functional space fit for modern homeowners.
